Kentucky Breastfeeding Laws

Mothers in Kentucky have the right to breastfeed in any public or private place they’re allowed to be. In addition to the federal FLSA’s PUMP Act that provides workplace lactation accommodation protections for all breastfeeding employees, Kentucky state law provides an extra level of support.

We’ve awarded Kentucky two drops on our scale.

KY Breastfeeding Laws: In Public

Mothers in Kentucky have the right to breastfeed in any public or private place they’re allowed to be. Read the law: Ky. Rev. Stat. § 211-755 (2006)

KY Breastfeeding Laws: At Work

The federal FLSA’s PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act protects all breastfeeding employees, but Kentucky already has a strong workplace lactation accommodation law in place. The Kentucky Pregnant Workers Act (KY PWA)(SB 18) requires employers with eight or more employees to reasonably accommodate employees with medical conditions related to pregnancy (including breastfeeding). Breastfeeding employees must be provided a private space to pump that is not a bathroom. Read the law : Ky.19 RS SB 18/GA (2019)
